Volunteer Opportunities

You can become an Ambassador of the United States without ever leaving home! Listed to the right are items that are found in dollar stores, flea markets and department stores. If you notice them at a good price consider putting together something called a "Ditty-bag". The definition of a ditty bag is a small bag that a sailor uses to store small personal items.

These articles may seem very small and unimportant to you but they mean a great deal to those who receive them.

When Port Chaplains and Ship Visitors board a ship they could leave a number of Ditty-bags for the crew-members. Most ports do this around Christmas time. However understanding that many ships are from foreign countries some of the ships crew may not have these small things in good supply... so as a gift to them the Ditty-bag and its contents could really help someone a great deal.

The mariner knows that the Ditty-bag is coming from well intended Christians and they are often overwelmed simply not expecting any goodwill at all.

Throughout the year if you could assemble clear plastic sandwich size bags of any combination of the articles to the right and send them to us- we will make sure they get to a Port Chaplain for distribution.

You can mail your completed Ditty-bags. Contact us for a port facility near you.
